The development of a laboratory table-top x-ray laser has been pursued since the 1970s, and more so since the unambiguous demonstration in the 1980s. An important research effort has been put in the development of table top experiments that can be readily applied for example
in the imaging of fast nanoscale objects. This comparison is centered in the demonstration of varios successful isoelectronic schemes, achieved in different types of plasma discharges. This comparison complements a similar comparison on the Ne-like argon scheme in capillary discharges.
