The development of laboratory X-ray laser has been intensively pursued since the 1970s, and more so since the unambiguous demonstration amplification in the 1980s. An important research effort has been put in the development of table top experiments that can be readily applied, for example,
in the imaging of fast nanoscale systems. This comparison is centered in the demonstration of a successful Ne-like scheme using capillary gas discharges.
