Stark broadening of spectral lines is an effect that is presented in the emitted light of transitions of atoms or ions immersed in a plasma. Considering that the plasma state constitutes a large percent of the matter in the Universe, it is one of the most powerful tools to diagnose astrophysical and laboratory plasmas remotely and without interfering with the plasma itself. This comparison presents an approximation to the historical evolution of the theoretical models, that supported the experiments of spectral line profiles since the 1950’s.
