The DNA barcode has been used to inventory Lepidoptera in different regions in the world, showing to be a useful tool to inventory species, mainly in groups highly diversified. This comparison analyze different studies with DNA barcoding (COI) worldwide, showing that mainly the studies have been development in the Nearctic and Palearctic region with a gap in tropical regions. The DNA barcode is useful to identify specimens correctly and discover potentially undescribed new taxa.
