With researchers drowning in a publication flood, predatory journals being on the rise and scientists getting overwhelmed by new tasks like data management, it is time to rethink scholarly communication.

Libraries have always supported researchers in their work and continue to do so even more in the time of digitalization. Starting this year, we will thus increase our efforts to onboard (university) libraries to our program.

As highlighted at the Kyoto University Symposium “Scholarly Publications as Open Data and University Libraries”, February 15, 2022, there are several steps libraries can take to support the ORKG:

• Increase awareness. We work in a brand new field of scholarly communications. Help us get known by recommending us to your researchers.
• Create example comparisons for presenting the state-of-the-art in concrete research topics. This will bring new fields to the ORKG and help researchers to get started.
• Help researchers to curate content, e.g. SOTA comparisons, literature lists, visualizations, Smart Reviews etc. This will help to ensure high quality standards and provide a better starting point for your researchers.
• Run domain specific ORKG Observatories for specific research questions addressing societal challenges like climate change, COVID-19 pandemic, renewable energy, circular economy etc.
• Help integrating the ORKG with other research infrastructures such as open-access repositories, research data management, etc.
